Reduction Process

How Radonit will help you:

After Radonit performs a short-term test of your residence, a 3-6 month long-term test kit will be put in the lowest level of the property. Both tests are free for Radonit customers. Should your home test reveal that your home has elevated radon levels, steps that Radonit will take in the reduction (remediation) process are to:

  • Inspect the home's structure.
  • Provide an assessment to the home owner.
  • Explain what the work will involve. Where it will be placed, how long the job will take to complete, and exactly how the radon reduction system will work.
  • Within 48 hours Radonit will provide a quote for the radon reduction system.
The system installation:

  • Perform a sub-slab communication test: A diagnostic test used to determine what type of radon reduction system should be used, and where it should be placed in the home. This test determines the airflow from one end of the basement to the other. A 1-1/4-Inch hole is drilled in the floor where the proposed hole for the radon reduction system is to be installed. A 3/8-inch hole on the other side of the basement is also drilled. With a vacuum attached to the 3/8-inch hole, a sub-slab communications test kit is used to ensure that there is proper air flow, and that the ventilation system will cover the entire basement.
  • Floor Drain to be removed and replaced with a radon preventative drain. Sump lid to be replaced with a radon preventative lid.
  • Any gaps and cracks to be sealed with caulking.
  • Should the home have a crawl space, a polyurethane membrane sheet is applied to cover the entire crawl space, it will be sealed thoroughly. A PVC pipe will draw air from below the membrane, and it will connect to the sub-slab depressurization system.
  • Install a sub-slab depressurization system. A 4 1/2" hole is drilled into the basement floor in order to draw air from below the floor where the radon accumulates. A PVC pipe with a fan attached runs out of the house to the roof. The PVC is painted to match the house and mask the pipe.
  • Radonit will patch holes, clean up after the job, and take responsibility for any incidental damage caused by Radonit.
  • Liability insurance and workers compensation are carried by Radonit in order to prevent the home owner from liability in the event of injury to persons, or damage to property while the work is being carried out.
  • Radonit will provide a 2 year guarantee that radon levels will remain remediated to < 75 Bq/m3. During this period, should the levels exceed 75 Bq/m3, Radonit will provide servicing to remedy any issues.
  • A long-term radon test must be performed during the following winter of the system being installed, and again in 5 year intervals following that test. Radonit will provide the first 1 year test free of charge.
